about us

Owners Laurence and Bob Kaplan are both pilots (they fly via the on-site airstrip), have traveled the world, speak multiple languages and are active philanthropists. Yet their true love is this ranch and it’s apparent. Bob and Laurence are the hosts at almost all the meals, come along on the activities and treat you like part of the Red Reflet family.

The Red Reflet staff who live on the Ranch year round are a diverse group with a mix of skills and talents providing  an unmatched welcome to guests.

Weather & Attire

Red Reflet’s housing area is in the lower ranch, on the edge of the Big Horn Basin Desert at an elevation of 5000′ or less. The upper ranch is in the cooler mountains and at an elevation up to 8500′.

The weather is unusually sunny and the air is very dry. It is normally quite warm by mid-morning and cool by later afternoon. We strongly recommend packing sunscreen, moisturizer, a swimsuit and a hat for the daytime hours, as well as a medium weight jacket for the cool evenings. We also recommend very comfortable hiking boots for outings, and riding boots with a slick sole, when horseback riding (required for safety).

We can provide packs, water bottles and snacks. Although the Ranch does supply toiletry items, your preferred brand may not be available. We are located in beautiful but remote Wyoming so try to bring your personal needs as the store is 37 miles away!

Policies & Procedures

What to Expect

The Red Reflet is a working Cattle Ranch, and a resort Guest Ranch, not a rustic or traditional Dude Ranch. We want our guests to feel like part of the ranch family and our hope is they experience life as it exists on a real working ranch, a Western lifestyle unique to Wyoming. The ranch is an opportunity to reconnect with family and friends; forging new bonds through shared adventure, experience, discovery and learning.

The Red Reflet is also a Resort where the focus is on new experiences coupled with rest and relaxation. While a working ranch at its core, the Red Reflet offers many non-ranch activities to try and new places to explore.

Owners Laurence and Bob, as well as most of the staff, live on the ranch all year. The ranch is their permanent home and they welcome you as their guest, helping you experience everything you can about life on a working cattle and horse ranch.

Every guest receives personalized attention. Once your stay is booked, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire to help us better prepare for your specific needs and requirements as well as schedule any desired activities and/or equipment usage for your stay.

While at the ranch, you get up close and personal with the area, do what you want, when you want to, and never worry about incurring a bill or extra charge for doing Ranch activities, as everything (or just about) is included.

This really is a guest ranch unlike any other! Offering the gold standard in ranch vacations and uniquely Western in every way. Live the experience; and see Ranch life first hand.

Use Of Ranch Property & Equipment

Guests of the Red Reflet Ranch have unlimited use of all the facilities and equipment. Staff will always provide an introductory session to horse riding, ATV’s, Side-by-Sides (SBS's), dirt bikes, mountain bikes, or any other equipment. It’s the guest’s responsibility to be competent and to safely engage in these activities. Ranch staff will give as much instructions as the guests require, to achieve a level of comfort and competency. Ranch guests, holding the reservation, are also responsible for the equipment used by anyone in their party, and will be liable for damages. Ranch management reserves the right to withdraw the use of any equipment used in an unsafe manner or without due courtesy. The Ranch requires a release from liability from Guests prior to operating Ranch equipment, riding or participating in Ranch activities.

Dogs, Cats & Other Pets

There are 6 permanent residences on the Red Reflet Ranch and everyone seems to have their collection of pets. A moderate balance of territories comes to pass over time with all these pets, but guests or summer interns bringing their pets quickly upsets this balance, therefore, we ask PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS to the Red Reflet Ranch.

It is possible to bring your own horse to the Red Reflet Ranch, but Wyoming law requires certain shots and vet certificates. Please call for details and we will help you comply.

Fishing

Please bring your own fishing equipment if you choose to fly fish on the Ranch. Basic equipment for beginning fly fishing can be loaned to guests, who assume responsibility for returning it intact. A charge will be made for rental of fly-fishing equipment and a small charge for children’s equipment. Guests are responsible for damages and lost tackle.

Real Estate

Ranch Homesteads

Extending the enjoyment and lifestyle of the ranch into the possibility of home ownership.

The homesteads of Red Reflet Ranch offer the same five-star service and recreations which embrace our resort guests, but without the restrictions of time. Whether you’re here for a week or an entire year, all the expected ownership comforts await, combined with access to our fully established ranch facilities. The Red Reflet Ranch is not like any other luxury retreat or western vacation. It’s a destination and a way of life. Build your western dream home at the Red Reflet Ranch and enjoy many special family experiences unique to Wyoming .

Homestead Development

The Red Reflet Ranch Homestead consists of twelve parcels, each ranging from 40 to 160 acres. Each parcel may contain one home, a guesthouse, a barn and a hangar pad adjacent to the private, restricted-use airport. Depending on the parcel selected, some hanger pads may be located on the parcel itself.

The co-operative tone of Red Reflet Ranch establishes a community with total respect for its neighbors and natural surroundings. The parcels were strategically divided to ensure scenic, unobtrusive views for each homeowner. In addition, a homeowner’s association will be established to guide incoming residents with building and landscaping plans, ensuring a standard in quality is maintained. This includes road and airport maintenance, trash removal, and measures to protect the natural environment.

Each homestead owner is responsible for obtaining water and sewer permits for the parcel and drilling a well to access the ranch’s natural water supply. Two wells currently serve two parcels. Power and telephone service is provided to the parcel boundary.

Ranch Living

Homestead owners enjoy exclusive ranch club privileges while at the ranch. They have access to all facilities including: pool, gym, tennis court, climbing walls, zip line course, volleyball and basketball courts, as well as unlimited horseback riding all year, both inside or outside. Owners may also participate in the ranch’s cattle operation by working alongside our cowboys during branding, cattle drives, rodeos and all equine activities. Private horses may be boarded, trained, and exercised at the ranch.

As part of the ranch club privileges, owners may reserve the full services of the resort ranch at special rates, including meals prepared by the onsite chef, ranch activities, guides, and lessons. Entertaining also becomes a special event. With advanced reservations, your guests may also share the ranch’s recreations and amenities at ranch club rates.
