What to Pack for a Ranch Getaway?

Couple toasting at the Couple's Chalet

Many of our visitors are spending their first time at a dude ranch and are unsure of what to expect or even bring with them. The weather in Wyoming, along with the activities, requires particular clothing. While Red Reflet Ranch provides many necessities, here are some items that we recommend bringing with you to our ranch.

What to Pack for a Ranch Getaway

  • Slick-soled Riding shoes
  • Comfortable shoes

If you’re planning on horseback riding, make sure to pack riding boots. This way you can safely enjoy our extensive riding facilities and experience the ranch from horseback. Also, make sure to bring a couple of pairs of comfortable athletic shoes for the other outdoor activities! Whether you want to enjoy hiking, mountain biking, or rock climbing, having the right shoes is important to stay comfortable and safe. For hiking in particular, hiking specific shoes are recommended for the trails.

  • A bathing suit

Our dude ranch has multiple ways to cool off when the weather’s nice, so make sure to bring a change of clothes and swimwear! Our guests always have a blast at our natural waterpark. Using water from our artesian well, our waterpark includes a suspension bridge, rope swings, a zipline, paddleboards, kayaks, a water slide, canoes, and even a sandy beach! We also feature a pool with an incredible view.

  • Western-themed clothing

If you don’t own any, that’s fine, but you’ll be missing out! If you’re spending an afternoon at the rifle range or enjoying the cowboys rope in the afternoon, it certainly lends itself to the overall atmosphere. Plus, you might appreciate a cowboy hat during the hours when the sun is strongest.

  • Sunscreen
  • Hat (preferably with a wide brim)
  • Moisturizer
  • Sunglasses
  • Buff

Like we were saying, a hat is key. The weather is usually sunny and dry, meaning you’ll probably want a hat to protect your head. Activities like our ATV rides are much better when you can see where you’re going, which is why we recommend sunglasses or at least some kind of hat with a visor. Since most of our activities are outside, bringing sunscreen is very important, as is moisturizer. Similarly, a buff works to keep dust out of your face on horseback or on a windy day.

  • Sweatshirt
  • Jacket
  • Wool hat or beanie
  • Wool socks

While the days are mostly hot and sunny, the evenings and nights become a bit more chilly. Some evenings are colder than others, so bringing a sweatshirt or jacket can come in handy when it comes time for stargazing or going for a walk. Making sure you have a hat and wool socks is key in the winter or at the mountain cabin.

  • Fishing equipment (optional)
  • Water bottle (optional)
  • Camera (optional)

We provide beginner fishing equipment and water bottles, but if you’d like to go fly fishing or have a reusable bottle you prefer, bring them! If you consider yourself a photographer, there are some amazing views from the ranch. You might even get a chance for some great shots of the local wildlife.
